Curved Harmony: A Home in the Hills

A Family Home Harmonising with Existing Trees, Views, and Climate

A four-bedroom family home in the Adelaide Hills, designed to harmonise with its bushland setting while prioritising energy efficiency and comfort. The house was carefully curved around a large existing tree, creating a focal point and maintaining as much of the natural landscape as possible.

Located in a bushfire zone with a long driveway, the design meets CFS accessibility requirements, while passive design strategies ensure energy efficiency. Living spaces are oriented north, with large curved windows that bring the outside in and provide views of the backyard and tree. Eaves are designed to allow winter sun while shading from the summer heat, and a rammed earth wall provides thermal mass to stabilise indoor temperatures.

The result is a home that seamlessly integrates with its natural surroundings, balancing sustainability, safety, and liveability.
